Somniloquence

Last weekend, I went NAGAHAMA, a town by Lake Biwa in Shiga Pref. At that time, I ate this "Yakisaba-Somen", roasted mackerel with silver line noodle (Japanese vermicelli). Mackerel was cooked in soy sauce with suger and the fine noodle was cooked with the fish stock. This combination is not usual but the tast is something that seems familiar.

This was my first visit of Nagahama. I enjoyed exhibition of Japanese plum bonsai tree(miniature potted plant) , Railway Museum and traditional streetscape. Tower of Nagahama castle have a superb view of Lake Biwa. I would like visit Nagahama again.

"End in being a three-day wonder"
This situation is real "Mikka-Bozu"(Japanese phrase meaning "give up easily").
Sorry about such long silence. I have tendency to be crushed by pressure of work in year-end and new year.

Comment: If you love translated American literatures, like Paul Auster, Rebecca Brown, you know Motoyuki Shibata as well. This his new book is an essay about food in leteratures.

When I looked through the book in a book shop, I expected "delicious stroy" as I found the sentences about "Whale steak" in Moby Dick. However, many chapters in this book were occupied by strange and terrible foods! Every chapter was interesting and impressing but I must say the author was writing about strenge food passionately rather than delicious one.

You can find names of chapters like "food in absence" "poor dinners" "emptiness, hunger and fast" among ordinaly contents such as "root vegetables" "poultry". Fill in the blanks.
Its true that "food in absence" is more attractive than food described deliciously in book.

Incidentally, there is a chapter named " human etc.",
( especially, "En Suisse")

The author's style is ironic as usual, with broad kowledge and wit. I enjoyed each chapter during journey to work everyday. Character modeled the author in illustration is also one of the attractions.

I like very much "comedy CD"!
Last November, I got a chance to listen ads of Michiko Shimizu's new album "LIP SERVICE" and a song named "Desire" on the album in her radio show in Nippon Broadcasting System. At the time, I got burst of laughter! This song is her impersonating famous musician Yousui Inoue. It was so amazing that she performed male voice easily. I went stright to CD shop to get it.
Of course Michiko Shimizu is great performer as a impressionist. Special feature of this alubum is an idea of writing new song, which is really likely to write and sing by original singer and singing mimic voice. Its already get far ahead of original.

For laugh, I recomend rather previous album "UTA NO ARUBAMU (Song Album)". But the LIP SERVICE's "meta-mimicing"idea is creative and have an impact. If the original musicians were cover the song, it will be so wild...

Incidentally, other comedy CD we enjoyed last year's end is this...

Update: Movies of this month

You can find a section named "Movies of this month in Tokyo" at the left sidebar.
This section contains a list of new movies, which I wolud like to see in this month.

"IWO JIMA 36 DAYS OF HELL" is a very long (5 hr 51 min!) documentary movie. This is special screening consist of three chapters with two breaks. The DVD version (3-DVD box sets!) also will be released on 23 Jan. Although this movie was produced in 2006, the same timing of "Iwo Jima Projects: Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima directed by Clint Eastwood", this documentary film based on the footage by marine force cameramen at the time and interviews of retired American soldiers whereas the project movies performed by actors .

The list was dominated by documentary movies this time...
It may have a effect that I watched DVD "Bowling for Columbine" recently.
AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH and TELL THEM WHO YOU ARE are documentary movies too and THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO based on a true story.
The themes of these are not "fun" but "interetsting".

Problem is theater!
These movies may be showing in central area of Tokyo ONLY.
How can I find spare time to go?

This site, "Somniloquence" is the English version of "Chips with Everything".

In "Chips with Everything", I am writing entries about everyday life, movie, book, food and so on.
